Peru Expedition - July/August 2004

Scott took up climbing when he was seven years old, and before he
was eight, was climbing routes that most adults only aspired to
climb. By nine he was traveling the world doing photo shoots for The
North Face. He discovered big wall climbing in Yosemite when he was
eleven, and climbed The Nose of El Capitan. A documentary called
Wall Rats was made of the climb. Scott discovered that he could use
his climbing to help others, and a month after his first trip up The
Nose, he did it again, this time in one day to raise money for the
families of 9/11 victims. Both of these climbs were world records,
and he's excited to be in the 2008 Guinness Book of Records for
these accomplishments. At thirteen he set off on another record
breaking adventure - climbing Half Dome in Yosemite in one day. At
fourteen, he went to Peru on an expedition to climb Welcome to the
Slabs of Koricancha (VI 13a, 650m, 13 pitches) at 17,470 feet - the
hardest route in Peru. He's the youngest person to climb this level
of difficulty at this altitude in the world. He took a special
interest in the region, and has been returning every year to host a
huge climbing competition/fundraiser for the local climbers.
He's nineteen now, and hiis travels have taken him from across the United States, to
Thailand, Mexico, Canada, Peru, Hong Kong, Egypt, Spain and
Australia.
He's met incredible people and is happy to have friends from all
over the world. Scott's focus over the last few years has been
climbing harder and harder outside. He's traveling more than ever,
and he's upped his climbing to an expert level. He's doing great in
competitions, and he's a member of the USA Climbing National Team.
